1744 saw the birth of Allen Solly as a brand of
William Hollins and Co. Ltd. In the 90's Allen Solly was taken
over by a young fledgling company Madhura Garments, a division of
Madura Coats, a market leader in threads and garment trims.
The
idea was to spearhead a brand which broke all conventions. But it
lacked a strong foundation. That's where Friday Dressing came in.
Till 1993, dressing down to work had never been experimented in
India. Until, Allen Solly launched Friday Dressing to the Indian
corporate wardrobe. The message was clear. No uniforms, just
relaxed formal wear. And the visual showed it all with coloured
shirts and khakis at work.
Then in the year 200, Madura
Garments was taken over by one of India's leading industrial
houses, the Aditya Birla Group. In fact, in 2001 the Aditya Birla
Group obtained world rights to the brand and since then there's
been no looking back. |
